Kurin Fine Homegoods
In a crowded market for eco-conscious household goods, how might a direct-to-consumer product set itself apart through packaging design and visual identity? To answer this, I developed the conceptual brand Kurin, a household spray cleaner that comes with sustainable refill tablets.

Design Process

Existing eco-friendly cleaning brands generally have an approachable and feminine tone. For this reason I chose to differentiate Kurin by targeting the men’s luxury market. I drew inspiration from the visual language of aspirational men’s goods like cologne and liquor.

To guide the design process, I identified Kurin’s key brand traits of sophistication and futurism.

In packaging, I chose an austere color pallete of black and white, with gloss and matte finishes to evoke prestige and value.

In digital applications of the brand, I used transparent effects to translate the tactile elements of the glass packaging and gloss varnish to the screen. Additionally, I used gently eased motion whenever possible to further emphasize a feeling of high-tech cool.
